CHAWAN
The chawan is a traditional Japanese tea bowl used since the 13th century to prepare matcha. When handbuilding a chawan, the potter considers both beauty and functionality. They can be fashioned into eccentric shapes, with textured surfaces, or exhibit hand-painted designs.
Features like the whisking space, lip feel, texture, and glaze are all a part of the chawan’s intuitive design and inform the tea experience. The thick ceramic body helps retain the temperature of the matcha, while the bowl’s weight encourages the use of both hands, grounding the drinker in the present moment.
CHASHAKU
The chashaku is a traditional Japanese bamboo scoop designed for measuring matcha. Our chashaku is created using Yamanaka woodworking and lacquering techniques that date back to the Tensho Era (1500s). The tactile feel of the soft bamboo adds warmth to the tea ritual.
HOW TO USE
- The curved tip and sharp bend make it easy to reach into narrow matcha tins.
- Each scoop measures roughly 1 gram of matcha.
- Do not wash the chashaku or get it wet, otherwise the scoop will absorb the matcha powder.
- Wipe gently with a dry cloth after use.
SPOON
The tea-spoon is ideal for those who prefer consistent results with every cup. Made from stainless steel, our measuring spoon is designed for everyday use, with a sleek design that pairs beautifully with the rest of your matcha tools.
HOW TO USE
- Each scoop measures approximately 1.5g of matcha. We recommend two spoonfuls for a smooth, balanced 3g serving.
- Rinse and dry thoroughly after each use. While stainless steel is resistant to rust, we suggest avoiding prolonged contact with moisture or acidic substances.
SIFTER
The matcha sifter is a critical instrument in achieving a creamier and more enjoyable bowl. During the stone-grinding process, static electricity causes the ultra-fine matcha powder to cling together. And, once opened, exposure to moisture and heat can also cause clumps to form. Sifting breaks up clumps in the powder, allowing for even whisking and better dissolution. It also can enhance the tea’s natural flavor and aroma.
CHASEN

The chasen is a traditional bamboo whisk used to prepare matcha. Handmade from a single piece of bamboo, our 80-prong chasen is designed for easy frothing and is the most effective tool for combining the fine matcha powder with water. Its springy and gentle prongs have rounded ends that preserve the integrity of your chawan during use.
HOW TO USE:
- Using only your wrist, whisk briskly in an “M” or zig-zag motion across your bowl.
- Please Note: Avoid pressing down; a light touch is all you need. After about 15 seconds, your matcha is ready.
MATCHA TIN
Our matcha tin is designed both to protect the matcha powder from light, air, and moisture and for the convenience of at-home preparation. Whether you’re a daily drinker or occasional sipper, proper storage keeps your tea tasting vibrant.
HOW TO USE:
- Daily matcha drinkers can pour the powder directly into the tin for easy scooping.
- Occasional drinkers should keep the powder in its original bag. Roll it up tightly and store it inside the tin to reduce exposure.
- Close the tin after each use and keep it away from heat, sunlight, humidity, and strong odors.
- For the best flavor, use within 2 months. We suggest writing the open date on your bag or tin.
- Please Note: Daily matcha drinkers can store the tin in a cool, dark place. Room temperature is fine. For long-term freshness, keep your matcha in the fridge once opened.
KETTLE
The tea kettle provides precise temperature control, which is essential in tea preparation. The correct water temperature can bring about richer umami and a more balanced flavor profile in your matcha. Too hot, and your matcha could turn out bitter. 176°F is the highest recommended temperature for most matcha blends. Some delicate blends require a lower temperature of around 140°F (60°C). If you don’t have an electric kettle, boil water and let it cool for 5 minutes.
HOW TO USE:
- Set the kettle to your preferred temperature, between 140 -176°F.
- Once the water has reached the set temperature, let it rest for a few seconds before pouring.
WHISK STAND
The whisk stand is designed to extend the lifespan of your chasen. The stand’s pyramid-like form preserves the chasen’s curved shape and allows for better air circulation, reducing the chance of mold.
After rinsing your whisk, simply place it on the holder with the prongs facing down to help it dry properly. Maintaining a well-shaped chasen will ensure a quality froth and an enjoyable bowl of matcha every time.
