Michael Kanatake for rocky’s matcha Wave Chawan Matcha Bowl

Inspired by the meditative rake marks of Zen gardens, the Wave Chawan is a limited edition series of 100 handmade ceremonial tea bowls.  Carved wave-like patterns ripple across each surface, evoking the quiet movement of water and bringing a sense of calm to the preparation of matcha.

Designed and handcrafted by LA–based ceramic artist Michael Kanatake, each chawan is made from stoneware and finished in a shino glaze, resulting in subtle variations that make every piece unique. Created to be used and appreciated daily, the Wave Chawan transforms the preparation of matcha into a moment of presence, inviting a deeper connection to the ritual of tea.
